Converting between Double and Float is compiler-specific?

So, I was just writing some Haskell code, and needed to convert a Double to a Float. That’s pretty easy in every other language I know of. And, it turns out to be pretty easy in GHC, too. But apparently it’s not even possible in portable Haskell! That’s right, this functionality is compiler-specific!

More proof that:

  1. GHC is Haskell, for all practical purposes.
  2. Haskell was developed by mathematicians, not programmers.
